What’s Hot – 10/06/22

Platty Joobs was great, wasn’t it? Actually, genuinely brilliant Britishness (don’t @ us on this we are prepared to die on this hill). Where else would you get Kate Moss in a Union Jack leather jacket atop a London bus, a giant drone light of a Corgi looking like it was going to eat Buckingham Palace, Paddington having tea with the Queen and, well Craig David.

Lizzy put on a hell of a show to celebrate history’s second longest reign. Only The Sun King Louis XIV reigned longer… but he cheated by being king when he was a baby.

But, we all know the real king this week was Prince George (yeah Lois was good too) after his outstanding performance over the weekend… suited up, hands on hips looking like a miniature Gareth Southgate – legend.

Anyway, it’s time to get back to our usual musings, ravings and ranting about pop culture in this week’s What’s Hot featuring pop royalty of different eras, fashion at a princely sum and Moulin Rouge (musical royalty?)

Strike A Pose: The Madonna Biopic is Coming

Julia Garner has apparently been offered the role of Madonna in a biopic of the original pop Queen directed by the icon herself. Florence Pugh was previously reportedly in contention for the role with a gruelling audition process looking to ready the lead for a music-heavy production requiring skilled singing and dancing.

But now, it appears Inventing Anna and Ozark star Garner is now in pole position to secure the latest big biopic lead – although she is yet to confirm whether she has accepted the role. We like the idea… so everything crossed!

Madonna says she hopes to “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world.” We hope that a significant amount of time is dedicated to her ‘Lockdown Phase’ and specifically, the bathtub incident.

The update you need (?) to know: Billie Eilish sings about Depp vs. Heard

We thought Depp vs Heard had run its course, but no, Billie Eilish has something to say about it (ish).

Over the past few weeks, there has been much discussion about the highly-publicised legal battle between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. Regardless of how you feel about the judgement, the way the trial has played out across various platforms (TikTok in particular) has been interesting to see – is this a glimpse of how trials will be played out in future? Honestly, we hope not.

Anyway, back to our original point, this week, Billie Eilish performed in the UK for the first time since 2019 and included a reference to the trial in her new song ‘TV’. Always one with meme culture our Billie.

The Collab of the Century

What could be hotter than the drop of the century? Fans have been eagerly anticipating the launch of luxury fashion House, Gucci’s collaboration with Adidas, but the wait is over, and the collection is here. And it costs the same as monthly rent for a room in Zone 2.

The collection was first teased on the Italian house’s Milan runway in February but finally became available to purchase in select Gucci stores and the Gucci website on the 7th June.

The iconic collaboration has resulted in a fusion of wearable sportswear and exquisite Italian glamour, but the pleasantries don’t end there as there’s a massive selection on hand to sift your way through should you fancy taking out a small mortgage.

From crossbodies, tote bags and luggage bags to tennis inspired pieces including sweater vests, polo shirts and of course the three striped tracksuit, Gucci and Adidas have mastered the art of blending retro and glamour and we’re here for it. The real star of the show for us at Fever has got to be the old school Adidas Gazelle’s with the Gucci print… but the $850 price tag may have put a few of us off just slightly.

So if you’ve got a couple thousands spare head over to the Gucci site and buy a tracksuit of dreams and while you’re at it, send us one.

Because We Can, Can, Can,,, go to Moulin Rouge! The Musical

One of our intrepid What’s Hot reporters (Marty) went to see Moulin Rouge! this week and has, (quite literally at some point) been singing the musical’s praises.

Based on Baz Luhrmann’s iconic close to the Red Curtain Trilogy, this musical might just be the best thing on in London right now (according to our resident theatre critic, Marty). The stage design is outstanding, costumes are beautiful and the singing is fantastic. Some song choices are questionable (cough Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ cough) but overall it works together to transfer Luhrmann’s over-the-top-ness onto the stage.

The sexy red light, luscious velvet curtain drapings and can-can dancers create a perfect setting and if bisexuality and ADHD collided in the Big Bang, this musical is what would have come out if it. And that’s exactly why we love it.

Have a good weekend folks!
