What’s Hot 2/12/22
It’s the first Friday in December, we are still confused by the festive/football combo but hey ho (ho-ho-ho), it’s time to once again tell you what’s got us hot under the cultural collar this week.
VAIN X McDonalds
Ever thought you’d see a McDonalds uniform down the runway? No? Well, now you can. Finnish fashion brand VAIN has taken upcycling to a whole new level by creating a collection out of discarded McDonalds uniforms. VAINE and McDonalds partnered to create a 27-piece collection to juxtapose the familiarity of the fast food chain with unexpected environments, presenting the restaurant’s much-loved aesthetics in a brand-new context. The collection features the logo, the signature colour palette, through a collection of dresses, jackets and accessories.
The two brands then created an iconic photoshoot inside a Finnish Mcdonalds showcasing the whole collection, with many chips and burgers. As well as being able to buy the collection online, Finnish McDonalds employees have the chance to wear the collaboration to work by entering an internal raffle. Will this be the first of many fast food x fashion collaborations? We can only hope!
Spotify Wrapped
We’ve been practising our singing all year long. Now, the time has come to find out what we have been binge listening to the year, as music streaming, Spotify, has realised Spotify Unwrapped. For some, there will be an embarrassing amount of guilty pleasures, for others their favourite genre won’t be shocking in the slightest. One of our team found out they have spent a month of their 2022 life listening to podcasts…
The most streamed artists of the year may not come as a surprise to most. Harry Styles had the most streamed song, As It Was, with a total of 1.5 BILLION streams this year. And I can say with confidence that I contributed significantly to this success.
We highly commend the bold people that share their Spotify Unwrapped on their social media, as I know mine is staying safely tucked away.
Cocaine Bear
Since the announcement of the “Cocaine Bear” movie in April this year, moviegoers have been on the edge of their seats with anticipation. The trailer for Cocaine Bear was released yesterday giving viewers a glimpse of what to expect in the movie, which will be released in 2024. For the people who are unaware, Cocaine Bear is based on the 175lb bear that ingested a duffle bag of abandoned cocaine, and subsequently overdosed, in 1985. The bear was found three months later, after riding a multi-million dollar high, next to approximately 40 plastic containers of cocaine. However, the movie portrays a more gruesome version of events.
Will this movie be the new “Jaws” or do we have another “Sharknado” situation on our hands? If any movie can live up to the hype, it’s got to be Cocaine Bear.
Indiana Jones & Dial of Destiny (The Real Never Ending Story)
Following the 2008 smash-hit (?) which was the fourth instalment of the Indiana Jones series, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, fans of the age-old saga will be chuffed to know that they’re still going to milk Harrison Ford dry as a new trailer for the latest chapter, The Dial of Destiny, dropped late last night. While the story remains unclear, what we do know is that he will be joined by none other than Fleabag creator and star, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, as his main sidekick (connection unclear but I’m sure it’ll be aptly explained) With the last movie being a slight disappointment for some viewers, The Dial of Destiny has some very big gaps to close, however the initial scenes revealed last night do look promising with plenty of whip gags, car chases and classic archaeological techniques on display. Will it be good? That’s up to destiny now (Horrible gag but where else could we go with this). Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny will be released on June 30, 2023.
