This Week We Have Been…
…coffee tasting at our local Nespresso branch in Regents Street. We tried a selection of the lungos from the Grand Crus selection so we now know our flowery aromas from our cereal ones. We’re not sure about the Caramelito flavoured coffee and think we’ll opt for a syrup instead when impressing our dinner guests. Still… they were free coffees so we may revisit before payday!
…getting cultured at the opera. Last night we headed over to the Coliseum for opening night of Simon McBurney’s The Magic Flute – Mozart’s classic with a contemporary twist. Our favourite character Papageno the bird catcher was hilarious and the effects were breathtaking. The show is running until 7th December, so go and see it while you can!
…beating the queue at Bone Daddies. Just a few streets over from Creston House, we ventured to Bone Daddies for a hump day ramen treat. We opted for the Tonkotsu broth, which was delicious – but our money is still on Shoryu for the meanest ramen in town! We also treated ourselves to the pork and corn croquettes – a must have side dish!
…happy to see Matt Berry back on our screens with Toast of London, a brilliant new comedy about an eccentric stage actor called Steven Toast. If you’ve seen Matt in The Mighty Boosh or Snuff Box, you’ll know what to expect – weird, wonderful, and very, very funny.
… enjoying some fine dining at Aubaine, a fantastic French restaurant based in Mayfair. We tried the pork, steak and lobster spaghetti mains, but the duck egg & celeriac starter really was something else. Well worth a visit!
… getting all excited over one of our fav US stores finally opening on Regent Street – cult US brand J.Crew has landed! In fact the recent US invasion of our much loved stateside shops doesn’t stop there, Club Monaco opened on Westbourne Grove back in September and we’re lusting over the ‘girl about town scarf’ from Kate Spade too. We can finally get our complete US shopping fix on our doorsteps!
…catching up with Bridget Jones. We took a copy of the latest instalment ‘Mad About The Boy’ on holiday to the US. Bridget is now a widower in her fifties looking after her two small children and trying to get back on the dating scene. Online dating and social media are huge (but hilarious) barriers for Bridget to overcome, but she does have a fling with a hot, thirty-year old toy boy. Although the jokes did make us LOL, the book isn’t the same knowing that she doesn’t end up with Mr Darcy *sniff*
