What’s Hot 6/1/23
New year, new What’s Hot? No. We’re sticking to the incredibly refined winning formula of bringing you the coolest bits and bobs we’ve seen out there in the big wide world in any given week.
2023 is off to a flyer with the team diving into their new year’s resolutions as well as lots of exciting planning for the year ahead. And whilst we have all been working incredibly hard in our first week back (of course), we have also been GLUED to the absolutely wild ride that is Spare; HRH Harry’s (or Harold, (YES HAROLD), as we now know he is called by his fam) autobiography. Magic mushrooms! Sex stories that read like a Barbara Cartland novel! Lip Gloss Gate! Obviously, there are more serious and sad statements within it, but from what we have seen (online) so far, it is like a modern-day Shakespearean play and we do NOT know what to make of it, but it is certainly keeping our Twitter feeds busy.
Although this Leeds United fan editor has mainly been crying about saying goodbye to Matty Klich.
Talking of footy…
Beth Mead was named Sports Personality of the Year 2022!
In December, Beth Mead became the first female football player to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award for 2022. Beth was the top goal scorer and player of the tournament in the Women’s Euro’s 2022, helping win England’s first major women’s football trophy.
Ben Stokes, England Cricket star, and Winter Olympics curling champion, Eve Muirhead, followed in second and third place but it was the Lioness that took the top spot. Beth delivered an emotional speech, saying “This is for women’s sport. Let’s keep pushing, girls”- an incredibly powerful and selfless message that is sure to rally more women and girls to join the sporting world this year.
Along with these huge achievements, Beth was also named Arsenal’s player of the season, came second in the Ballon d’Or Féminin and won BBC’s Women’s Footballer of the Year award in 2022.
We are so excited to see what Beth, and her fellow Lionesses, have in store for us in 2023 as we build up to the World Cup… could it come home? Answer is always YES.
New Year, New Doughnut Place Near Us
One of the most common resolutions for the new year is to switch up your diet and eat healthily. But here at Fever, our new year’s resolution is to Eat.More.Doughnuts. and thankfully ‘Donutelier’ by Roladin is about to make this much easier.
The legendary Dutch bakery, known for its stunning doughnuts, has opened its first branch right around the corner from the Fever offices. Taking inspo from the world’s greatest fashion ateliers (see what they did there, with their name?), Donutelier’s baked goods are essentially edible art, and visitors to this luxury patisserie will be able to watch every step of the doughnut making process.
The London branch will include the brand’s signature offerings, as well as a few exclusives available in our branch only. Costing between £5-£6 they’re not the cheapest, but they look huge, beautiful and definitely very filling. The only question now is what will be our first doughnut – a classic The Pistachio, with Chantilly cream & pistachio variegato or perhaps the luscious St. Honore, with mascarpone cream, salted caramel, and topping of a profiterole(!)?
We’ve got our elasticated leggings on and are on our way to find out.
Greta Thunberg X Andrew Tate
You must have seen the recent run-in between Andrew Tate and Greta Thunberg? Surely! Two people you never thought you’d see in the same sentence, but here we are. Welcome to 2023.
So, for those of you who don’t know, just after Christmas Tate tweeted Greta a picture of his expensive car, showing off about his emissions (weird flex), and said “Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions.”
As you could imagine, Greta didn’t take to kindly to this bait and replied with “Yes, please do enlighten me. Email me at smalld*ckenergy@getalife.com.” Which made us STAN Greta even more.
We won’t go into the alleged crimes Tate has since been arrested for, but what we will applaud Greta for is that it was allegedly Tate’s follow-up video in which he was handed some local pizza boxes that lead police locating his hideout! First the UN, then Trump, now Tate, who is Super Greta taking down next!?
Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party
We don’t care what you did on New Year’s Eve, it was not as HOT as Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party. And when we say hot, we really mean it. The NYE special was live on NBC in the US (and now literally everywhere on TikTok) and honestly, she’s set the tone for 2023.
Miley had a variety of famous ‘friends’ join her on stage, including none other than the Queen of Hotness, self-proclaimed inventor of the selfie, and cultural icon Paris Hilton to sing (?) her smash hit Stars Are Blind with Miley and Sia of all people. The pure confidence of Paris strutting onto that stage and letting out some of the worst vocals ever heard alongside two of the strongest singers from this generation is the confidence we’re bringing to 2023.
Other highlights included everyone developing a collective crush on Fletcher as she performed a very steamy rendition of Midnight Sky with Miley; and of course, Miley’s godmother, the one and only Dolly Parton, whose seamlessly mashed up Wrecking Ball with I Will Always Love You, giving us all proper goosebumps. Miley is at her career best, you can hear the maturity in her voice in these performances. With new music coming out this month, ‘23 is going to be a big one for Miley and we’re all here for it.
As Paris Hilton would say – that’s so hot.
