What’s Hot 4/11/22
Now that October is out of the way, we can all talk about what really matters – Christmas season! This week’s What’s Hot focuses mostly on our favourite festive launches from the past few days, as well as a rogue non-festive entry from I’m a Celeb and a worm related Halloween reference…
MPs in the Jungle
Let’s start by talking about the elephant in the room – the all-star I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here. This season was already looking to be promising, with the likes of Jill Scott, Boy George, Olivia Attwood and Mike Tindall heading to the jungle, but then it was announced that Matt Hancock would be joining them.
The British public, will, without a doubt, vote for Hancock to do every single bush tracker trial, so why is he doing it? We’re not quite sure that gorging on bugs and fake crying is the way to go when you’re clearly after fixing your reputation… but hey, what do we know, eh 😉? Say what you want about the man, but given his track record, we think it’s very brave of Matt to go on a show with plenty of hidden cameras.
As well as his trip to the jungle, Matt has also just finished filming Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins and has a book coming out, so you can’t say the man isn’t busy. He’s also reportedly pitching for a show of his own, which would focus on him and his girlfriend on their journey fixing up their holiday home. Creatively named, the show is being pitched as Hancock’s Holiday House.
However, we hope in amongst all his busying he is also helping his constituents, given that Parliament is not in fact in recess and whether he (and us) like it or not, he is still a serving MP.
Iconic Celebrity Halloween Moments
As we put away the pumpkins and cobwebs (or in Fever land, the corsets and animal ears…), it is the time to reflect on the most iconic celebrity moments of Halloween 2022. We certainly have seen quite a few, and stealing the show as always, was Halloween costume lover (and undoubtedly expert) Heidi Klum. This model only has herself to compete with when it comes to being the costumer Queen, going in previous years as Shrek’s Fiona, as well as an extremely realistic elderly version of herself. This year, however, the Halloween Queen graced us with her presence dressed as no other than a human-sized, very creepy-looking worm. Thanks to this insecty (is that what a worm is?) costume Heidi is not only winner of our Best Costume Award here at Fever, but also spawned one million excellent memes.
Other favourites this year included a very blue Kim Kardashian with her transformation into Mystique from the X-Men franchise, and Lizzo as Marge Simpson. Controversially, Billie Eillish went as a baby, whilst new boyfriend Jesse Rutherford dressed as an elderly man, with many thinking this could be a response to the backlash against their 11 year age gap.
So, whilst for the rest of us Halloween passed in a very nonchalant, rainy Monday fashion, many celebs even took the time to do multiple Halloween photoshoots for Instagram (ahem – Kylie Jenner). We cannot even begin to process how much time and money that would take, so I think we will continue to leave it to them!
Right, everyone, Christmas…?!
Greggs Festive Bake Brunches
Our favourite, and super high-end, bakery, Greggs, has just opened their doors to their first ever bottomless brunch – ‘Bake Brunches’. Forget your regular bottomless brunch with the gals with flowing prosecco and Pornstar Martinis, Greggs has really set the bar here. The brunch allows you to fill your boots with has many bakes, sausage rolls, baps, pizzas, and sweet treats (vegans fear not, you’re being catered for!) until you physically cannot move for a whole 75 minutes! This includes Roll Sour, Greggspresso Martini, Sugar Strand Daiquiri, Greggs No-Aperol Spritz and Festive Fizz. I mean if the Sausage Roll Sour hasn’t tempted you thenI don’t know what will.
Tickets are available from the 4th of November with locations dropping in Manchester and Newcastle later this month. In London, you can find Festive Bake Brunch at 46 Great Eastern St, Sat Nov 12, 1pm – 6:15pm via a refundable £5 booking fee. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Bounty
It’s not shaping up to be a good Christmas for the Bounty chocolate bar. This week the beleaguered Bounty was back in the news as it was announced that a trial of Bounty-free Celebrations tubs were to be trialled this festive season. Due to the fact that apparently 40% of people hate them … which feels a bit punchy in our (ok my) opinion. Who knew that a coconutty bite could cause such debate or evoke such strong feelings? Anyway we (I) will happily give any lonely Bounty bars a home this Christmas.
Christmas Adverts
‘Tis the season for Christmas adverts to be making their appearances again! Asda have led the race with Will Ferrell’s iconic Buddy the Elf hilariously causing trouble throughout the Asda stores. Other celebrities have joined with big name brands to create memorable Christmas adverts. Allison Hammond and Stephen Fry have matched with Sainsbury’s in a fairy-tale inspired ad, paired with a Medieval instrumental cover of Wheatus’ hit ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ (which was… a choice). Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders reunite in the animated M&S Food advert.
However, the cutest award must go to Lidl who have focused their advert around “Lidl Bear”, a teddy who has recently become famous. Unfortunately, the adorable “Lidl Bear” cannot be bought in stores, much to this writer’s disappointment *cue heartbreak*.
We are still waiting patiently for the highly anticipated John Lewis Christmas advert to be aired. It has been predicted to be aired on Friday 11th November.
Who will win the title of best Christmas ad 2022?
