What’s Hot?

Welcome to this week’s What’s Hot. As we head into the weekend, like many, our thoughts are with the people of the Ukraine. If like us you are looking at ways to help, we found this list of organisations here really useful.

And, if you are after a few minutes of escapism then we hope the below does the job for you.

Facebook launches Reels

Taking its battle against TikTok to the next stage, this week Facebook have announced the global rollout of Reels within the platform.

This comes after the news that Facebook, for the first time in its history has lost users (which avid readers will know we have previously given our opinion on..). In an attempt to win back the estimated one million users, this news comes as no surprise.

Creators will now be able to post Reels up to 60 seconds in length, and will remix functionality to encourage trend engagement.

Is this Facebook’s way of connecting with Gen Z, and more importantly will it actually work?

Escape from reality with the new PlayStation VR 2

PlayStation announced their new VR 2 headset and it has social media by storm. Unfortunately for all the gamers out there, the headset won’t be available on the market until late 2022 or even possibly 2023. What we do know is that the PSVR 2 will take VR gaming to a whole new level according to Sony, with drastically improved specifications.

The PSVR 2 will have an OLED display, 4K HDR, a 110-degree field of view and foveated rendering. And that means it’s a pretty good headset. As Sony has stated, these will allow “a greater sense of presence” so players can “escape into game worlds like never before”. An escape from reality? 100% needed.

A mini Katniss has arrived!

Looks like all the celebs have baby fever this year, first Rihanna announced she was expecting her first with beau A$AP Rocky, then Kylie Jenner gave birth to angel baby Wolf Webster (how do we feel on the name?) on angel date 02/02/22 and now, the one and only J-Law has given birth to her first baby and we cannot wait to see a mini Katniss running around.

No details including the name and gender of the baby have been confirmed yet (though we’ll be keeping our eagle eyes peeled), but we are living for all the new mini celeb additions and wish J-Law the best as a new mom.

Statue Activism

A positive statue story. This week, Adidas unveiled some mighty colourful, 3D printed statues of sportswomen and activists made from recycled marine-farmed waste plastics. The statues were to spotlight the lack of existing statues of women, with according to the sports brand, only 4% of London’s statues being of women (come on London that’s just not on). The statues were also apparently to celebrate the launch of a new sports bra range but we like the story about representation better.

Kanye and Demna x Gap

Not content with a full time job of jet set dating Kim doppelgangers. Kanye has been busy opening collaborating with Gap and this week, the collection was unveiled. Comprising eight pieces of oversized, cropped clothing, you too can dress like Kanye.

And on that note, we are done for this week. Keep safe and we will see you next week.
